Historic Dennis Lake Front Home
Ambrose Homes updated this lakeside home in the Dennis Historic District to preserve the aesthetic of the original 1930's home with expanded contemporary living space and a new foundation.
Since the original home is in a highly regulated historic and environmental area, Ambrose Homes had to design and build within strict parameters set by the town's boards.
The original home didn't complement the historic and natural surroundings. It also lacked a complete foundation and any usable space below the first floor. We lifted the house and placed it on a new foundation and dressed it in stone facade. This new lower level has a coffered ceiling, a bedroom with views and access to the lake. We removed and rebuilt 70% of the original structure in this project, building two dormers in order to create new spaces while maintaining the aesthetic within the scale of the original house. We also added a deck off of the living room overlooking Scargo Lake.
