On Cape Cod the need for reliable bulkheads and sea walls has increased due to eroding shorelines and aging properties. Ambrose Homes, Inc. repairs and installs bulkheads and seawalls using their specialized equipment and skilled crew to protect homes swiftly with low environmental impact.
Bulkheads and seawalls are a vertical shoreline stabilization structure that provides shoreline protection from waves and retains soil. Bulkheads and seawalls can be constructed from a variety of materials including concrete, wood, and vinyl. Seawalls are typically used to prevent homes from storm surges with pounding surf, eroding shorelines and waves.
We offer three types of bulkheads and seawalls: Wood, Vinyl & Concrete. Ambrose Homes’ has all the technology, machinery and skill level needed to complete 100% of the seawall.
Vinyl seawalls are the newest technology with a service life of over 50 years and have become the preferred material. Vinyl sheet piling has made traditional materials like wood, steel, concrete, and aluminum almost obsolete. Traditional materials have no performance guarantee, and begin breaking down almost immediately in a salt-water environment.Vinyl seawalls are available in a variety of different colors and best of all; the material will not rust, decay or corrode in the marine environment.
Wood seawalls historically have been the most used material in residential seawall construction. A wood pile/wale/sheet system is a common seawall bulkhead configuration. With proper treatment the service life for a wood bulkhead is approximately 20 years. CCA is Pressure Treated lumber or pilings that have been pressure-impregnated with a preservative which makes the wood resistant to attack by marine borers that cause wood to decay.
A concrete seawall is appropriate where there is heavy ice and wave action. Our concrete walls are designed with the proper calculations for the balance of passive and active pressures that will affect the wall from season to season.
